Are You Taking Enough Griswold Vacations?

When was the last time you truly took a vacation? You know the kind - Clark Griswold style where you pack up the family for weeks of adventure without a care in the world!  With the end of summer hopefully approaching (I'm SO done with record 100 degree temps in Houston), you may be trying to fit in a last minute vacation.  Vacations have been a topic in the news with President Obama electing to take time-off when many thought he should be working.  I took my first vacation of the year

Well-Dying: A Program HR Does Not Need to Champion

After reading about what South Korean companies are doing to attempt to increase productivity, our corporate team-building retreats, psychological assessments and 360's don't seem all that bad!

Evidently, fake funerals or "well-dying" are the new corporate off-sites for some companies in South Korea like Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, Kyobo Life Insurance, ING, Allianz and Mirae Asset Management.  In a country where suicide rates are high and work-life priorities vary,

HR Exposed: Put Some Pants On

There are many classic quotes from the movie, "The Hangover", and one of the more PG-rated is Phil saying to Alan, "Would you please put some pants on?  I feel weird having to ask you twice."

Thongs Need Not Apply

There was an article in the Denver Business Journal that caught my eye recently - "Generations clash over tattoos, body piercings in the workplace".   So, what is all the fuss - especially in Denver (not the most conservative of towns)?  Essentially the article talked about tattoos and piercings becoming more mainstream and how employers are dealing (or not) with the shift in attitudes about body art.  The question was posed - what will dress codes look like in 30 years when the

Does the Punishment Fit the Double Fault?

What a week! Seriously - was there a full moon or something? I mean, what else could explain the poor behavior and performances from people we typically admire? Every time I saw a headline I was deflated and began to question what gets in people's heads to make them do the things they do.

Three incidents stand out and I'm curious if others think the punishments fit the crimes?

· It all started with Representative Joe Wilson, who erupted during the President's televised speech to
