European & Asia-Pacific Employment & Labor Law

We would be delighted for you to join us at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Francisco on March 7th, 2017 for full-day workshop exploring the curious worlds of European and Asia-Pacific Employment & Labor Law, in the context of acquisitions and restructuring the workforce. This event is hosted by Bird & Bird.

The increase of large restructuring deals by US corporations acquriring European and Asian companies has made it critical for U.S. in-house practitioners to understand the challenges and pitfalls that can occur when doing business in these jurisdictions.

Our workshop will provide an in-depth and practical look at the challenging world of European employment and labor law, in the context of acquisitions and restructuring, in particular focusing on:

  • Key differences between US/European employment law
  • Union rights and works councils
  • Mandatory employee transfer rules and employment contracts
  • Pre- and post- acquisition considerations (including due diligence)
  • Developing an effective strategy in choosing acquisitions targets
  • The impact of BREXIT on UK employment law

In addition, we will be providing a broad comparison of the different legal approaches adopted in key jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific region and how these compare to the systems followed across Europe. In particular we will be exploring Australia, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The workshop will be chaired by former Northrop Grumman European Assistant General Counsel, Wolf von Kumberg, who has over 25 years’ practical experience dealing with European transactions and restructuring projects. He will be joined by the co-head of Bird & Bird’s Asia-
Pacific employment team and employment lawyers from Bird & Bird’s offices in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, the Nordics and the UK. Together, they will provide crossjurisdictional, strategic employment law expertise that any U.S. corporation contemplating or already doing business in either Europe or the Asia-Pacific region cannot afford to miss.
